Wilmington Classical Guitar is excited to be kicking off our eleventh concert season with the incredibly talented Spanish guitarist Andrea González Caballero. Considered one of today´s most acclaimed young guitarists, Andrea distinguishes herself with her confident, sensitive and expressive playing. Andrea is a laureate of multiple prestigious international guitar competitions, receiving First Prize and Special Prize at the “XL International Competition F. Sor” (Rome), and First Prize at the “XIII Alhambra International Guitar Competition” (Valencia), of which she was the youngest guitarist to receive first prize. Already a veteran performer, Ms. González has been lauded for many performances all over the world. We feel incredibly fortunate to have her opening our season with her Delaware debut!

10/19/19: Andrea González Caballero will be teaching a masterclass in the afternoon of Saturday October 19 at 1:30 pm in the West Room of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The masterclass is free to observe and open to the public, but registration is required. Register as an auditor to sit in and hear what Ms. González has to teach our guest performers, or register as a performer for your chance to perform for Andrea and have her critique your performance (a small tuition fee applies). Considered one of today´s most acclaimed young guitarists, Operaworld Magazine describes Andrea Gonzalez Caballero as “the female voice of the Spanish guitar”. Andrea is a laureate of multiple prestigious international guitar competitions, receiving First Prize and Special Prize at the “XL International Competition F. Sor” (Rome), and First Prize at the “XIII Alhambra International Guitar Competition” (Valencia), of which she was the youngest guitarist to receive first prize.
Andrea has appeared at international festivals and concert series around the world. Recent highlights include performances at Palau de la Música in Barcelona, National Auditorium and Juan March Foundation in Madrid, as well as performaces with Sinfonietta Ratingen and Neue Philharmonie Westfalen in Germany. Selected by the International Guitar Foundation of London to perform as soloist in international music festivals such as the “London Guitar Festival”, she debuted in the UK offering concerts at venues like King’s Cross in London and Sage Gateshead in Newcastle.
Andrea’s 2017 Naxos CD, which contains the premiere of new guitar compositions and pieces by composers like B.Britten, Albébiz or Tárrega was received with great acclaim: “this album is a delicate, elegant and majestic musical word” (Golden Melomano distinction by Melomano Magazine).
Andrea has been supported by “Alexander von Humboldt Foundation”, “DAAD” (German Academic Exchange Service), “AIE” (Society of Performing Artists of Spain) and “Provincial Council of Guipuzcoa” to study at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf (Germany), where she graduated with honors. Andrea is currently a Manuel Barrueco student at Peabody Institute of John Hopkins University.
