Upcoming Special Event: 2019 Potluck Lecture Salon and Annual Meeting
We had a great time last year at our December salon, where we all enjoyed a lecture on interpreting the music of Bach by Simon Powis, and a look into luthier David Pace’s journey making classical guitars, and insight into what David thinks is the most important thing he’s learned about classical guitar making. If you missed last year’s December salon, you missed a great time. But you’re in luck! We’ve got another great potluck salon coming up this December.
Join us Sunday, December 15th at 6 pm for our second WCGS Potluck Lecture Salon, featuring composer, guitarist, lecturer and conductor Kevin Sherwin, and guitarist Danielle Cumming, professor at Salisbury University and Artistic Director of Marlowe Guitar.
Kevin Sherwin will give a 45-minute presentation on performance practice and techniques from the early 20th century, as exhibited in the historical recordings from that era. Mr. Sherwin will include recordings as well as live examples during his presentation, giving listeners the opportunity to see and hear firsthand how modern performance practice differs from that of the past, giving us all a greater appreciation of the thought put into making music then and now.
Professor Danielle Cumming from Salisbury University will discuss the practice of yoga and how it can help guitarists remain limber and perform their best. Keeping strong and flexible is critical for achieving and maintaining our best performances. The audience is welcome to join in the exercises; no yoga mats are required.
Along with our informative and fun evening, we’ll also be sharing a potluck dinner, so please bring something to share. Salad, entree, appetizer, dessert, beverage? It’s all good. Just please no alcohol.
Please RSVP for the event by emailing me at president@wilmingtonguitar.org as soon as possible. While this event is for members only, if you have a significant other or friend who is really interested in attending, please let us know. We would love to have them join us.
