Happy Summer everyone!
Hope you’re keeping cool in this HOT weather! Join us for our upcoming BBQ/Pool Party, and don’t forget, our salon is coming up on SUNDAY, and I anticipate a lot of great performances as performers for the upcoming WCGS Showcase concert practice their material (including the Ens-Lavanish Duo – woot)! Details below. Hope to see you there.
WCGS Board of Directors – Thank You and Welcome!
I want to take a moment to thank Robert Guerrero and Graham Williamson for their invaluable service on the WCGS Board over the past several years, as they have officially departed from the board a/o June 30th. Robert served most recently as Secretary and Fundraising Coordinator, and Graham as Membership Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator. Both contributed countless hours and ideas to help keep WCGS running, and their presence will be sorely missed. Thanks Robert and Graham. If you see them, please give them a pat on the back and a big thank you for their service.
I also want to take a moment to welcome Billur Dowse and Seth Hammonds as newly-elected Directors of the Board. Billur will be taking over the role of Membership Coordinator from Graham, so I’m sure she’ll be reaching out shortly to all of you to say hi and introduce herself. Seth will be taking on the role of Secretary, and is already busy getting us more organized. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have such wonderful people volunteer their time to help keep WCGS going. Thank you Billur and Seth!
If you’ve been thinking about becoming a board member and lending your expertise and skills to help steer the direction of WCGS, there’s no better time than now. Our board members are the heart of WCGS, and in addition to defining our mission, board members play an active role in making sure our events go smoothly, coordinating our memberships and fundraising, and getting the word out through marketing and social media, among many other things. Board members typically serve for a term of 3 years. If you’re interested in shaping the future of WCGS, we’d like to talk to you. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WCGS Potluck BBQ 2022
Summer is upon us, and now that it’s safe(ish) to venture forth from our hidey-holes, we’re looking to celebrate! It’s time for our mostly annual WCGS Members Potluck BBQ. The potluck BBQ will be held the afternoon of August 20th, from noon – 5:00 pm, so get it on your calendar! We will provide hamburgers, hotdogs and light refreshments. Please bring along your favorite dish to make it complete! We’ll have some beers on hand as well, but please feel free to bring and share your favorite!
For the safety of everyone, this is intended to be an outdoor party. If the weather is not sufficiently encouraging to hold the BBQ outside, the BBQ will be postponed and we’ll decide on a rain date. In the event of cancellation we’ll update everyone through the Facebook group and email.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT COVID-19 VACCINATION TO ATTEND THE POTLUCK BBQ. If you are not fully-vaccinated, or are experiencing any symptoms of illness (coughing, fever, runny-nose, short of breath, etc.), please do not come.
Fun for the whole family, so bring your loved ones along (provided they’re vaccinated). If the weather is nice, the pool will be open for swimming and other aquatic shenanigans. It’s not uncommon to play some music at these shindigs as well, so why not bring a guitar?
The WCGS Members Potluck BBQ will be held at The Varley residence – 8 Saw Mill Rd, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
If you’re planning on coming, please RSVP in the event on our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/events/858698455099039 or send me a quick message to email@example.com to let me know you’re coming and how many you’ll be bringing. Thanks!
Wilmington Classical Guitar Season 2022-23
It’s been a particularly long and windy road this year, with lots of pitfalls and a flat tire or two, but I’ve finally managed to book an outstanding season of concerts and masterclasses.
We’ve got a lot of exciting artists joining us this season, including the return of Thomas Viloteau w/Alexandra Iranfar-Viloteau (October 15), Carlos Bedoya (November 19), the return of Rupert Boyd (February 25), the Davisson Guitar Duo (March 25), and the GFA Tour Featuring Bokyung Byun (April 29), who you might remember brought the house down right before the pandemic hit. In addition we’ll have the 11th Annual WCGS Members Concert (May 27). Can’t wait!
To sweeten the deal, we’ll be holding a masterclass with each of our artists while they’re here, so all of you performers, practice up. Soon it will be your chance to perform for one of our artists in a masterclass, and a great chance for the rest of us to learn from your hard work.
Tickets for all events will be on sale soon in our Online Store.
