Greetings WCGS Members!
We’re just one week from our winter celebration. Read up below, and make sure you let me know if you would like to attend.
Upcoming Special Event: 2018 Potluck Lecture Salon and Annual Meeting
We had a great time last year at our December salon, where we all enjoyed the music of guitar virtuoso Celil Refik Kaya who played for us in celebration of our 100th salon. Although this year isn’t quite as awesome a milestone, it is our 10th season, and we decided we’d use that excuse to have another great event!
Join us Sunday, December 16th at 6 pm for our first WCGS Potluck Lecture Salon, featuring guitarist and founder of Classical Guitar Corner podcast and Academy, Dr. Simon Powis and luthier of traditional and double-top classical guitars, David Pace.
Dr. Simon Powis, founder of the Classical Guitar Corner Academy, will give a 45-minute presentation on the musical devices within the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. By analyzing several patterns utilized by Bach, this talk will assist the listener in identifying commonalities that deepen one’s appreciation and interpretation. These elements help bring out the texture within Bach’s music, enriching our understanding of Bach’s expansive body of work.
Accomplished luthier David Pace from Baltimore will discuss his journey in the craft of guitar building, the development of his design, and his experiences along the way, complete with pictures. David also plans to share with us the most important thing he’s learned about classical guitar making, so don’t miss his talk!
Along with our informative and fun evening, we’ll also be sharing a potluck dinner, so please bring something to share. Salad, entree, appetizer, dessert, beverage? It’s all good. Just please no alcohol.
Please RSVP for the event by emailing me at president@wilmingtonguitar.org as soon as possible. While this event is for members only, if you have a significant other or friend who is really interested in attending, please let us know. We would love to have them join us.

November Meeting Recap by Ralph Dominica, WCGS Secretary
Thanks to everyone who turned out on Sunday November 18th for our guitar salon. Our concert season is in full swing with Thomas Viloteau in October and our own Brendan Evans November 17. Brendan put on a great concert and certainly left nothing on the stage. Lots of productive discussion in our Salon (as always) and a relaxed evening of some informal performances from our members. We have a special night planned for the December Salon which you will be hearing more about so plan on being with us on Sunday December 16.
