Dear Subscriber,
Tonight we’ll be presenting our second visiting artist of the season, Chinese guitar virtuoso Junhong Kuang, and we are super excited! If you were at our October concert with Andrea González Caballero, you know we won’t disappoint. Although only 19, Junhong has already enjoyed an incredible career, performing in over 100 concerts and winning several major awards, including first place in the Thailand International Guitar Competition at age 11! At just 14 he recorded his first CD for the illustrious Naxos label, and at 15 he began studies with Maestro Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory. Junhong has a lifetime of making incredible music ahead of him, and we’re overjoyed to be bringing his talents to Wilmington.
Wilmington Classical Guitar contributor Joanna Daneman recently sat down with Andrea and Junhong in Maestro Manuel Barrueco’s studio to learn a little bit more about their lives, guitars, and love of music. Take a listen to our first ever podcast right now on SoundCloud.
Junhong also recently traveled to record Rodrigo’s iconic Concerto de Aranjuez for an upcoming CD release. Get a taste of his playing with this recent video of him performing the entire concerto on YouTube. (poke around on YouTube a little and you’ll find an additional recording of the concerto he made when he was 12! Fantastic playing even then, and he’s come a long way in the past 7 years.)
Tickets are available now in our Online Store and will be available at the door. Full details including an artist bio are available on our Website, or see below.
Hope to see you there!
Best wishes,
Matthew Lavanish
