Coming up this weekend, we’ll be presenting our second visiting artist of the season, Chinese guitar virtuoso Junhong Kuang, and we are super excited! If you were at our October concert with Andrea González Caballero, you know we won’t disappoint. Although only 19, Junhong has already enjoyed an incredible career, performing in over 100 concerts and winning several major awards, including first place in the Thailand International Guitar Competition at age 11! At just 14 he recorded his first CD for the illustrious Naxos label, and at 15 he began studies with Maestro Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory. Junhong has a lifetime of making incredible music ahead of him, and we’re overjoyed to be bringing his talents to Wilmington.
Junhong recently traveled to record Rodrigo’s iconic Concerto de Aranjuez for an upcoming CD release. Get a taste of his playing with this recent video of him performing the entire concerto on YouTube. (poke around on YouTube a little and you’ll find an additional recording of the concerto he made when he was 12! Fantastic playing even then, and he’s come a long way in the past 7 years.)
Hope to see you there!
