My Favorite Things is the newest concert program from American guitarist, Zachary Grim. About this experience that fuses the sounds of Spain, South American tango, and American jazz under the umbrella classical guitar, Zachary says the following, “I feel that a good concert is one that tells the audience who you are through your music. One of the greatest things about the world is that we are all amalgams of the diverse cultures and perspectives that shape who we are. I believe that this program, more than almost any other I have done, shows this successfully. The sheer variety of emotions, stories, and beauty that I am able to experience with the audience during these concerts is awe inspiring. It’s a truly special program that I am thrilled to share!”.

At just 14 he recorded his first CD for the illustrious Naxos label, and at 15 he began studies with Maestro Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory. Junhong has a lifetime of making incredible music ahead of him, and we’re overjoyed to be bringing his talents to Wilmington.

Guest Opening Artist: Haoyang (David) Pan

A reception featuring MyHouse Cookies will follow the concert.

Please share our event on Facebook and invite your friends!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
19-year-old Junhong Kuang was awarded a top prize in the prestigious ARD Music Competition when he was just 17, along with the Audience Prize and the ifp-Music Prize, making him the youngest prize winner in the ARD history.

Junhong, who is widely recognized as one of the greatest young talents in the world today, has already given almost a hundred concerts in his young life. In the United States, he made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall, and he has played recitals in Baltimore, Miami, and at Symphony Space in New York City. In China, he has performed recitals in the Oriental Art Centre Hall in Shanghai, and the Poly Theatre in Beijing among others, and in 2014 he was invited to give the opening concert at the Iserlohn Guitar Symposium in Germany.

He has performed as a soloist with several orchestras around the world, including the Symphony Orchestra of Dance and Theatre in Beijing, the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sichuan Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. This year he will perform the “Concierto de Aranjuez” by Rodrigo with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra and appear in recital at the prestigious Shriver Hall Concert Series in Baltimore, as the winner of Peabody’s Yale Gordon Concerto Competition.

Junhong Kuang made his recording debut with the Naxos label in a recording of music by Bach, Albeniz, Granados, Barrios, and Mertz, released in 2015 to great critical acclaim. He began receiving professional training in classical guitar at the age of nine with Professor Xu Bao in Chengdu, China. Only two years later at the age of eleven, he won first prize in the Thailand International Guitar Competition. He was accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University when he was only 15 years old, and is currently studying under the tutelage of the legendary maestro, Manuel Barrueco.

Marcin Dylla (BCGS)

Last time Dylla performed in Baltimore, he sold out!

“Dylla’s a world-class virtuoso (…) and the evening was a riveting display of guitar technique. But it wasn’t his pinpoint accuracy that dazzled, so much as his deeply felt, almost sensual poeticism. This was playing of almost Romantic-era passion — and it was impossible not to be moved by it.”

The Washington Post

Hailed by Washington Post as “among the most gifted guitarists on the planet” Polish guitarist, Marcin Dylla is a rare phenomenon in the recent history of Classical Guitar. Many music critics, connoisseurs, and music lovers certify that Marcin Dylla is among the world’s elite of classical guitar players. He has earned this position, among others, to the unparalleled number of awards including 19 First Prizes from 1996-2007 at the most prestigious international music competitions around the world. His last triumph was the Gold Medal of the ‘2007 Guitar Foundation of America International Competition’ in Los Angeles known as the most prestigious guitar contest in the world followed by tour of over 50 cities in North America, Mexico and Canada during 2008-09 season, live recital video recording for Mel Bay Publications and CD recording for Naxos that reached the Naxos ‘Top 10 Bestselling Albums’ in September 2008. His live recital DVD “Wawel Royal Castle at Dusk” was nominated for 2010 Fryderyk Award (equal to American Grammy) in the category of Solo Classical Music Album of the Year.

“’Incredible’ is a word used far too frequently these days, but the Polish guitarist Marcin Dylla restored the meaning of the word in an absolutely stunning concert.”
