Simon Powis is an internationally known guitarist and the head of the Classical Guitar Corner Academy. He combines a passionate and expressive style with a formidable technique. Growing up in Sydney, Australia, Powis began his studies at the age of five on the cornet. Inspired by his brother’s musical pursuits he took up the guitar at age eleven and began an enduring obsession that would result in performances throughout Europe, Australia and the Americas. After completing his studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Raffaele Agostino in 2004, Powis traveled extensively throughout Europe to study with some of the world’s most renowned virtuosos. Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, Pavel Steidl and Aniello Desiderio have had a great impact on the musical style and technical foundation that Powis possesses. In 2006 Powis was invited to undertake a Masters of Music at Yale University on a full scholarship and upon completing this degree he was accepted as the first guitarist in over two decades to undertake doctoral studies at Yale. During his time at Yale the professor of guitar, Ben Verdery, offered instruction, support and guidance.

American guitarist Andrew Zohn is recognized internationally for his work as a performer, instructor, and composer. Performing on five continents as a soloist and chamber musician, a recent critic has said: “Zohn…easily demonstrated how he is one of the most sought after performers on the classical guitar as his fingers deftly plucked some of the most subtle of tones on the instrument.” - The Star, Kuala Lumpur.

Since 1999, Dr. Zohn has served on the faculty of the Schwob School of Music (Columbus State University) in Georgia, where he is the Jo and George Jeter Distinguished Chair in Guitar. Those interested in summer study with Dr. Zohn can find him annually at the Texas Guitar Camp (Austin), Solstice Guitar Festival (Connecticut), the East Carolina Summer Guitar Workshop (Greenville), and the Borguitar Festival (Borgo Val di Taro, Italy). Many of his students have been featured on the American National Public Radio program highlighting outstanding young musical talent From the Top.

A strong advocate for new music, Zohn has been responsible for commissioned works by, among others, Sergio Assad and Atanas Ourkouzounov. In 2017, Zohn gave the world premiere of the commissioned work A Concerto of Colours by acclaimed British composer Stephen Goss. Original compositions and transcriptions by Andrew Zohn are published through Les Productions d'Oz, Canada, Tuscany publications (Theodore Presser), and FJH Publications. After nearly 50 years before the public he remains as his mentor Andres Segovia once wrote, “at the top line of our artistic world.”

In the 2017-18 season Fisk continues to break new ground for the guitar with marathon performances of his transcriptions of all 6 Bach solo cello Suites, duo performances with guitar legend Angel Romero and with a new trio formed with virtuoso guitarists Joaquin Clerch and Aniello Desiderio.

The long awaited release of Robert Beaser’s monumental guitar Concerto (dedicated to Eliot Fisk) on LINN records in 2017 elicited rave reviews online and in print. In the spring of 2017, Eliot Fisk premiered Son Dementes Cuerdas with the famed Arditti String Quartet with performances on two continents culminating in a performance at Wigmore Hall in London in a concert also featuring the Sequenza XI for solo guitar composed for and dedicated to Eliot Fisk by Luciano Berio.

Eliot Fisk has performed as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, Rochester Symphony, Orchestra of St. Lukes, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Pro Arte Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) and many others. He returns regularly to major concert series such as Stanford Lively Arts, Spivey Hall (Atlanta), Duke University Performances, Newman Center for the Performing Arts in Denver; Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the 92nd Street Y in NYC, Da Camera Society of Houston, Da Camera Society of Los Angeles, San Francisco Chamber Music; Segovia Series at Pick- Staiger Hall at Northwestern University; Jordan Hall, Boston; Orange County Performing Arts Center; Brahms, Mozart and Schubert Saal (Vienna); Mozarteum Grosser Saal (Salzburg); Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall (London) and at numerous guitar festivals such as those of Cordoba, Spain; Belgrade, Serbia; and Iserlohn, Bad Aibling and Hersbrueck, Germany.

My Favorite Things is the newest concert program from American guitarist, Zachary Grim. About this experience that fuses the sounds of Spain, South American tango, and American jazz under the umbrella classical guitar, Zachary says the following, “I feel that a good concert is one that tells the audience who you are through your music. One of the greatest things about the world is that we are all amalgams of the diverse cultures and perspectives that shape who we are. I believe that this program, more than almost any other I have done, shows this successfully. The sheer variety of emotions, stories, and beauty that I am able to experience with the audience during these concerts is awe inspiring. It’s a truly special program that I am thrilled to share!”.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
19-year-old Junhong Kuang was awarded a top prize in the prestigious ARD Music Competition when he was just 17, along with the Audience Prize and the ifp-Music Prize, making him the youngest prize winner in the ARD history.

Junhong, who is widely recognized as one of the greatest young talents in the world today, has already given almost a hundred concerts in his young life. In the United States, he made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall, and he has played recitals in Baltimore, Miami, and at Symphony Space in New York City. In China, he has performed recitals in the Oriental Art Centre Hall in Shanghai, and the Poly Theatre in Beijing among others, and in 2014 he was invited to give the opening concert at the Iserlohn Guitar Symposium in Germany.

This year he will perform the “Concierto de Aranjuez” by Rodrigo with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra and appear in recital at the prestigious Shriver Hall Concert Series in Baltimore, as the winner of Peabody’s Yale Gordon Concerto Competition.

Junhong Kuang made his recording debut with the Naxos label in a recording of music by Bach, Albeniz, Granados, Barrios, and Mertz, released in 2015 to great critical acclaim. He began receiving professional training in classical guitar at the age of nine with Professor Xu Bao in Chengdu, China. Only two years later at the age of eleven, he won first prize in the Thailand International Guitar Competition. He was accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University when he was only 15 years old, and is currently studying under the tutelage of the legendary maestro, Manuel Barrueco.

Last time Dylla performed in Baltimore, he sold out!

“Dylla’s a world-class virtuoso (…) and the evening was a riveting display of guitar technique. But it wasn’t his pinpoint accuracy that dazzled, so much as his deeply felt, almost sensual poeticism. This was playing of almost Romantic-era passion — and it was impossible not to be moved by it.”

The Washington Post

Hailed by Washington Post as “among the most gifted guitarists on the planet” Polish guitarist, Marcin Dylla is a rare phenomenon in the recent history of Classical Guitar. Many music critics, connoisseurs, and music lovers certify that Marcin Dylla is among the world’s elite of classical guitar players. He has earned this position, among others, to the unparalleled number of awards including 19 First Prizes from 1996-2007 at the most prestigious international music competitions around the world. His last triumph was the Gold Medal of the ‘2007 Guitar Foundation of America International Competition’ in Los Angeles known as the most prestigious guitar contest in the world followed by tour of over 50 cities in North America, Mexico and Canada during 2008-09 season, live recital video recording for Mel Bay Publications and CD recording for Naxos that reached the Naxos ‘Top 10 Bestselling Albums’ in September 2008. His live recital DVD “Wawel Royal Castle at Dusk” was nominated for 2010 Fryderyk Award (equal to American Grammy) in the category of Solo Classical Music Album of the Year.

“’Incredible’ is a word used far too frequently these days, but the Polish guitarist Marcin Dylla restored the meaning of the word in an absolutely stunning concert.”
