Hailed as “the real thing, a player with a virtuoso’s technique, a deeply expressive musicianship, and a probing imagination” (American Record Guide) and for his “precision, musical intelligence and passion” (Cleveland Classical), guitarist Colin Davin has emerged as one of today’s most dynamic young artists. Highlights of his 2016-17 season include concertos with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Elmhurst Symphony, and Orchard Park Symphony; collaborations with Sharon Isbin at the Aspen Music Festival and the Cavani Quartet at the Cleveland Institute of Music; and solo recitals in Dubai, Kabul, and across the United States.
Wilmington Classical Guitar became enamored with Colin Davin’s playing when he performed for us in 2012. Since that time we’ve seen Colin perform on the David Letterman show with Jessye Norman, perform enthralling duets with soprano Estelí Gomez, and teach young musicians for several semesters in Kabul, Afghanistan. We can’t wait to have him back and see how his experiences have shaped his already transfixing musical intuition. Join us for an evening of classical guitar music from around the world as he performs works by Albéniz, Turina, Gnattali, Barrios, Lauro, Kaspar, and Bach.

Guest Opening Artist: Xiaobo Pu and Emma Resmini, flute

All concerts for the 2016-17 season will take place in our new home, the lovely sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, a space so acoustically intimate and beautiful it has to be heard to be believed.

Essential to ensuring the longevity of the arts in every field is an acknowledgement and appreciation of those artists that live in your own vicinity. The value of the arts is its ability to flourish in not just distant havens such as Paris, New York, or Tokyo, but also in the homes of your neighbors in Philadelphia as well. Our talented membership includes guitar builders, composers, guitar instructors, professional performers, and college professors. This annual concert is our homage to the many talented members of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.

We invite you to join us for the concert and stay for our post concert Holiday Party where you can meet other members, the local artists, and celebrate the holiday season.
